There is plenty to do and explore while you are visiting the area! To make the most of your stay in Lake Macquarie and experience the most of the beautiful lake and coastlines, we’ve personalised these itenaries whether you are staying for a weekend or a week so you can see as many of the sights as possible.

Day 1 - Local Surroundings

  • Relaxing day exploring the local family friendly beaches
  • Visit Caves Beach and explore the unique caves and rock pools at low tide
  • Take a scenic walk along the Wallarah walking track from Caves Beach to Catherine Hill Bay, a small historic mining town
  • Soak up the 19th century history and take some photos under the historic coal loading jetty
  • Enjoy some live music and lunch at the historic Catho Pub
  • Take a walk along Blacksmiths Breakwall or a dip at the safe patrolled beach or shallow Grannies Pool
  • Dinner with sunset ocean views at Caves Coastal Bar and Restuarant

Day 2 - Lakeside Family Fun

  • Breakfast with the kookaburras at the Lakehouse Cafe in Murrays Beach
  • Visit Swansea town centre and take a stroll along the lake edge cyclepath to Coon Island
  • Spend the day exploring the lake by hiring a boat, kayak or paddleboard.
  • Discover islands and sandy bays or toss a line over the side of the boat and try your luck at catching some dinner
  • Take a dip or enjoy some snorkelling at Naru Beach – a lakeside sandy bay perfect to soak up some sun
  • Dinner at Swansea RSL overlooking the lake

Day 3 - Brunch and Shopping

  • Take a drive to Warners Bay Foreshore
  • Enjoy some delicious brunch or coffee at one of the many cafes along The Esplandade
  • Enjoy a stroll or hire a bike along the shared path at Warners Bay Foreshore
  • Take the kids to Speers Point Park – an awesome playground with water play zones, swings and picnic areas
  • Cuddle some Koalas at Blackbutt Reserve
  • Spend the afternoon at Charlestown Square shopping or enjoy some ten pin bowling, mini golf or a movie at the cinema
  • Grab some easy dinner and enjoy a sunset picnic with spectacular views over Redhead Beach

Day 4 - National Parks

  • Pack your walking shoes and take a drive to the Watagans National Park
  • Enjoy one of the the many different walking trails suited to your difficulty level and admire the waterfalls and amazing panoramic views
  • Picnic or BBQ at the Pines Picnic Ground and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest
  • Take a walk along the Yulerbah Track finishing at Glenrock Beach
  • Pop inland to Mt Sugarloaf and admire the views of the greater surrounds

Day 5 - Explore the Harbour

  • Take a drive to Newcastle foreshore and walk along the breakwall to Nobbys Lighthouse
  • Walk the ANZAC Memorial Walk and enjoy the panoramic beach views
  • Walk along the harbour at Honeysuckle and enjoy lunch or a drink at one of the restuarants
  • Book one of the whale watching cruises departing from the Harbour (May-November)
  • Soak up some war history and city views from Fort Scratchley
  • Take a dip at the ocean baths
  • Enjoy a delicious dinner in Darby Street

Day 6 - Hunter Valley

  • Enjoy a day trip in wine country
  • Start the day with a sunrise Hot Air Balloon Flight
  • Book a wine tour and explore some of the amazing local wineries
  • Take a walk around the beautiful Hunter Valley Gardens and enjoy a game of putt-putt golf
  • Visit the Hunter Valley Zoo and meet the big cats
  • Enjoy a dinner at one of the award-winning culinary restuarants

Day 7 - Adrenaline Rush

  • Get your heart racing at Lake Macquarie airport with some skydiving, helicopter or aerobatic flights.
  • Enjoy a splash on the regions only jet boat at Raffetys Resort.
  • Take a drive to the family friendly Treetop Adventure Park and enjoy a day in the trees
  • Book a trail ride and explore the mountains by horseback at Cooranbong
