Caves Beach

Location: Caves Beach Rd, Caves Beach

Caves Beach is a great day out for the whole family. There is a network of sea caves to explore at low tide, BBQ and picnic facilities and 300m of sandy stretch of patrolled beach perfect to explore with kids. The coastal headline is littered with rock pools, weathered rocks and small caves. If you head up the stairs to the lookout, you can walk down a path to the secluded Spoons Rock beach along Wallarah walking track (keep an eye out for whales during May-November). We recommend grabbing a coffee from the Mawson cafe or enjoy a meal at the Caves Coastal Bar.

Blacksmiths Beach

Location: Ungala Rd, Blacksmiths

Blacksmiths Beach is located at the southern end of 9-mile Beach and is a great family friendly beach to explore during your stay. The patrolled beach is known for its safe swimming, due to the shelter of the break-wall. It is also the only beach in the area that allows 4WD access (permit required). Take a walk or bike ride along the pathed break-wall or down to Grannies Pool – a shallow tidal pool perfect for the children to swim.

There is a fish and chip store and playground opposite the beach and we thoroughly recommend grabbing a pie or two from the local favourite pie shop, Barry’s Pies, while you’re visiting!

Location: Flowers Drive, Catherine Hill Bay

Catherine Hill Bay is a historic, 19th century coastal mining town with a new development to its South. Only 80km from Sydney and 40km from Newcastle. Catherine Hill Bay is known as one of ‘Australia’s 101 Best Beaches’.

The main beach is popular with surfers and known for the historic coal mining jetty which is a landmark. The town is just a 5-minute drive to the city centre in Swansea

For those that like diving, there is a shipwreck, he ‘Shamrock’ Wreck, that you could explore with the best time to divebeing on an offshore wind when the seas are low.

Whilst you’re staying in ‘Catho’ be sure to go to the very famous ‘Catho Pub’ for a couple of casual drinks or a fantastic meal. If you’re one for loud crowds be sure to visit on a Sunday when they have live bands playing. The  Pub also has a kids play area.

Catherine Hill Bay is a secluded village therefor bus and taxi services are sparse. Walking is easy to the beach as it is a short walk to the beach.
